This list is by no means exhaustive, but we included several organizations we find to be useful. Each organization offers something unique – check each of them out if they are unfamiliar to you!

The Arc: According to their website, the Arc’s mission is: “promoting and protecting the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supporting their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.” Visit their website at www.thearc.org

Autism Law Center: According to their website, the Autism Law Center provides advocacy and legal services for individuals with autism and other disabilities – services include special education law, guardianship options, and medical assistance, among many others. PACER Center: According to their website, the Pacer Center “PACER Center enhances the quality of life and expands opportunities for children, youth, and young adults with all disabilities and their families so each person can reach his or her highest potential. PACER operates on the principles of parents helping parents, supporting families, promoting a safe environment for all children, and working in collaboration with others.” Visit their website at www.pacer.org

TIES Center: According to their website, the “TIES Center is the national technical assistance center on inclusive practices and policies. Its purpose is to create sustainable changes in kindergarten–grade 8 school and district educational systems so that students with significant cognitive disabilities can fully engage in the same instructional and non-instructional activities as their general education peers while being instructed in a way that meets individual learning needs.” Visit their website at www.tiescenter.org

Transition Tennessee: According to their website, Transition Tennessee “offers online and in-person resources to prepare transition-age youth with disabilities for life after high school.” Their online resources include a vast array of downloadable transition-related assessments that can be helpful in transition planning and evaluations.
